Novo Nordisk Targets Five New Drugs by 2030 to Combat Rising Market Competition
Novo Nordisk aims to launch five new blockbuster drugs by 2030 and reach $23 billion in annual revenue by 2035, facing rising competition from Eli Lilly and generic alternatives.

Novo Nordisk sets an ambitious strategic target to launch five new blockbuster drugs by 2030, projecting revenues of approximately $23 billion annually by 2035.
Following the massive success of its popular weight-loss injections Ozempic and Wegovy, pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk recognizes that long-term reliance on a single core product is insufficient. The company aims to diversify its revenue sources amid intense market competition from American rival Eli Lilly, whose competing treatments Mounjaro and Zepbound are steadily eroding Novo's market share. Additionally, semaglutide—the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy—has begun losing patent protection in several countries, paving the way for low-cost generic competitors.
To maintain its industry leadership, Novo Nordisk is advancing two particularly promising new drugs. The first is Cagrisma, which clinical trials showed achieved an unprecedented weight loss of about 21% in patients. The second is danuglipron-alternative or corresponding novel agents, specifically zanaglutide acting on satiety and hunger mechanisms, currently in advanced trials as an injection with plans for a future oral pill version.
Beyond the competitive weight-loss race, Novo Nordisk is expanding into additional medical fields. The company plans to leverage its substantial recent profits to develop innovative treatments for cardiovascular disease, liver conditions, and rare blood disorders, with an ambitious goal to serve over 60 million patients globally by the end of the decade.
