Many rights and benefits from the National Insurance Institute require familiarity with eligibility conditions, forms, and specific procedures. To simplify this for the insured, the National Insurance Institute has introduced digital information brochures that consolidate data on various topics, alongside direct links to relevant services on their website.
In a recent notice, the institute stated that the brochures include "simple and accessible explanations," allowing users to click and navigate directly to the relevant pages. The brochures cover topics such as discharged soldiers, senior citizens, victims of hostilities, and mothers.
Discharged Soldiers: Exemption in the First Months
A discharged soldier may be eligible for an exemption from paying National Insurance and health insurance contributions during the first two months after discharge, provided they are not working and have no income, subject to legal conditions.
Additionally, discharged soldiers and those who have completed national service may be eligible for unemployment benefits during the first year after discharge for up to 70 days. Senior Citizens: Amounts and Payment Schedules
Old-age pensions are paid based on eligibility criteria, with no means test required from age 70. As of 2026, the basic old-age pension for an individual is 1,838 NIS per month, rising to 1,941 NIS for those aged 80 and over.
Pensions are typically paid on the 28th of the month, though dates may shift due to holidays.
Victims of Hostilities: Assistance and Rehabilitation
The National Insurance Institute provides benefits to victims of hostilities and their families. Victims with a disability rating of 10% to 19% may be eligible for a one-time grant, while those with a rating of 20% or higher are eligible for a monthly disability pension.

Mothers: Birth Grants and Maternity Allowances
Information regarding birth and parenthood is also consolidated in the digital brochures. As of January 1, 2026, the birth grant is 2,103 NIS for the first child, 946 NIS for the second, and 631 NIS for the third and subsequent children. Twins receive 10,514 NIS, and triplets receive 15,771 NIS.
Maternity allowance compensates for lost income during pregnancy and birth. Those who have accumulated 10 out of 14 months or 15 out of 22 months of employment may be eligible for 15 weeks (105 days) of allowance. Those with 6 out of 14 months of employment may be eligible for 8 weeks (56 days).
Monthly child allowances for children under 18 are paid on the 20th of each month. As of 2026, the allowance is 173 NIS for the first child, 219 NIS for the second, third, and fourth child, and 173 NIS for the fifth child and onwards.
