New Israeli Record for Schuster, Five Israelis Advance to Semifinals at European Swimming Championships

Tomer Schuster (Maccabi Rishon LeZion) continues his phenomenal week in Paris. This morning, Schuster advanced to the semifinals of the 100m backstroke from sixth place, setting a new Israeli record of 53.39 seconds, shaving 0.21 seconds off the joint record previously held by Yakov Toumarkin and Adam Maraana. This marks the second national record he has broken during this championship, following his success in the 50m backstroke two days ago. The 100m backstroke semifinal is scheduled for this evening at 21:10.

In the same event, Inbar Danziger (Hapoel Jerusalem) set a new personal best of 54.13 seconds, placing 20th in the qualifiers, making him the first reserve for this evening's semifinal. Okan Goldin (Maccabi Nahariya) finished 28th with 54.53 seconds, while Michael Laitarovsky (Jerusalem Rabati) placed 47th with 56.00 seconds.

Anastasia Gorbenko (Maccabi Kiryat Bialik) also advanced to the 50m breaststroke semifinal from 14th place with a time of 30.91 seconds. Gorbenko faces a busy evening, competing in both the 200m individual medley final and the 50m breaststroke semifinal.

Two Israeli swimmers qualified for the men's 200m individual medley semifinal: Eitan Ben Shitrit (Jerusalem Rabati) finished eighth with a personal best of 1:59.11, and Alexey Glivinski (Hapoel Jerusalem) placed tenth with a time of 1:59.31.

In the men's 50m freestyle, Miron Cheruti (Maccabi Haifa) advanced to the semifinals from 14th place with a time of 21.96 seconds. Martin Kartavi (Maccabi Haifa) finished 18th (22.08) and is the first reserve, while Tom Sela (Maccabi Haifa) placed 69th (23.17). Lea Polonsky (Maccabi Haifa) concluded the morning session, finishing 20th in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:15.61.
