Another departure from Walla: legendary film critic Dr. Avner Shavit has resigned
Fifth departure from Walla Culture in three months: Dr. Avner Shavit, Walla's veteran film critic, announced his resignation after 16 and a half years. At the beginning of the month, Adi Gold was appointed as the section editor.
A wave of departures has hit Walla in recent months, and the popular "Walla Culture" section is now seeing its fifth resignation in a short period.
As previously reported, at the beginning of July, Nir Yahav, editor of the Walla Culture section, announced his departure from the site after 19 years. His exit came against the backdrop of new management demands, which had already led to the departures of David Wertheim, Amit Slonim, Guy Elster, and others.
Yahav edited this key section for the last decade; prior to that, he served as homepage editor, a correspondent for Arab affairs, and deputy editor of the site for two years. He left to take on a new role as director of the culture division at the Debi Communications agency.
Earlier this month, Walla made a new appointment to fill the vacancy: Adi Gold, who had served as the site's homepage editor for the last six months, joined the culture section as its new editor.
Dr. Avner Shavit, 43, began his tenure at Walla as a film critic back in 2010. Before that, he spent about two years as a film critic for "Achbar HaIr." Over the years, he also contributed columns to "Maariv" and hosted segments on Radio 103.
Now, the site's legendary film critic, who served for nearly two decades, has announced his departure.
