"We thought someone was liquidated": A grenade exploded in a building in Holon - for the second time in a year and a half
A fragmentation grenade exploded in a building on Zvi Tadmor Street in Holon, where a similar incident occurred about a year and a half ago. No one was hurt, but damage was caused. At the same time, two unexploded grenades were found in northern Tel Aviv. Police are investigating a potential link to the conflict between the Musli and Jarushi crime organizations.
Another night of grenades being thrown at residential buildings. This time, residents of the same building in Holon that was targeted a year and a half ago woke up to the sound of an explosion. A fragmentation grenade was thrown on Monday at a building on Zvi Tadmor Street, located near the local police station. There were no injuries, but property damage was reported.
For the residents, this is not the first such incident. About 18 months ago, a fragmentation grenade was thrown at the same building, albeit on a different floor. Tonight, they woke up in panic, unsure of what had happened outside.
"I live on a relatively low floor, close to where the grenade exploded. I heard a massive boom, and my children were screaming in fear," one neighbor told Walla. "In the middle of the night, the whole building wakes up thinking the worst—that someone was liquidated or that there was a terrorist downstairs. We didn't dare go outside until the police arrived." He added that the incident brought back memories of the previous explosion. "Every time it's a new story. You haven't recovered from the last incident, you decide to stay, and then it happens again. Living in the shadow of constant fear with children is not a normal life."
He further urged authorities: "We need to put an end to this. The explosion here is just another news report, while we remain helpless. It is important to deal with the criminals who terrorize normal citizens. Do not normalize this; address the root of the problem."
Police bomb disposal and forensic units from the Tel Aviv District arrived at the scene to collect evidence. However, the Holon incident was not isolated. This morning, an unexploded stun grenade was found in a residential complex on Nissim Aloni Street in northern Tel Aviv. No one was hurt, and the device was neutralized. Police stated the background is criminal.
Simultaneously, another unexploded fragmentation grenade was found this morning inside the swimming pool of the luxury Kochav HaTzafon tower complex in Tel Aviv. Fortunately, there were no casualties or damage.
One resident told Walla that she only realized what had happened under her home after seeing police and ambulances. "How long must innocent people fear for their lives? We moved to a luxury complex for quality of life, and now this happens right in our pool. It is frightening; we cannot live in constant anxiety," she said.
These events coincide with progress in a separate investigation. This morning, prosecutor's statements were filed against two young men from Bat Yam, aged 18 and 22, suspected of throwing a fragmentation grenade at a Japanika branch in Kiryat Ono last month.
The incident occurred on July 13 around 02:00, when two masked men on a motorcycle threw a grenade at the entrance and fled. The investigation by the Tel Aviv District Central Unit confirmed that the motive was the ongoing conflict between the Musli and Jarushi crime organizations.
Using technological means, investigators identified the suspects despite their attempts to cover their tracks. Both were arrested in July, and evidence linking them to the crime was seized. While the Kiryat Ono case is nearing indictment, new investigations have opened in Holon and northern Tel Aviv, as the fear of criminal conflict reaches residents' doorsteps once again.
