More than six years after the murder of 21-year-old Nivin Al-Amrani from Hura in the Negev, investigators have recovered remains belonging to the victim. A skull discovered in the Negev desert region two weeks ago has been formally identified as belonging to the young woman murdered by her brother in 2020.

The breakthrough occurred after a local resident alerted police to a suspicious object in the sand. Officers from the Ayarot police station rushed to the site, identified the human skull, and launched an immediate forensic inquiry. Subsequent laboratory tests confirmed the remains belonged to Al-Amrani, whose body had never been located following the killing.

The Murder and Concealment

Al-Amrani was killed on March 28, 2020, in the courtyard of her family home in Hura. According to the Negev Central Unit investigation, her brother, Naaman Al-Huweiti, viciously assaulted, stabbed, and slit her throat with a knife in front of their mother.

Following the crime, family members attempted to conceal the body and destroy evidence. Investigators suspected that the murder scene was covered in concrete to hide bloodstains. Despite extensive police searches at the time, the victim's remains remained undiscovered.

The case came to light several weeks after the murder when another brother reported to police that relatives were threatening him because he knew about the incident. This led to multiple family arrests and subsequent indictments.

Conviction and Ongoing Investigation

In May 2022, the Beersheba District Court sentenced Al-Huweiti to 28 years in prison after he confessed to the murder as part of a plea bargain. The victim's father and nephew were also prosecuted for their roles in the cover-up.

The recovery of the remains marks a significant development in a high-profile case that was successfully prosecuted and resulted in a conviction even without the recovery of the victim's body for years.
