Massive Fortifications at Netanyahu's Residence

Massive construction works have been carried out over the past few days at the private residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Gaza Street in Jerusalem, which has been recognized as an alternative official residence. Two cranes blocked the street, a major traffic artery in the Rehavia neighborhood, as at least 10 workers installed anti-drone defense nets.

For roughly a year and a half, extensive renovations have taken place at the Gaza Street house, including elevator construction, bathroom replacements, iron scaffolding, and the installation of security barriers, fences, and concrete blocks. Notably, the Netanyahu couple does not actually reside at the location, but rather in another home in the same area. Meanwhile, massive renovation works are also ongoing at the official Balfour Street residence, which are not expected to conclude before early 2027.

Neighbor Frustration and Security Budgets

Local residents have expressed deep concern over the disruptive fortifications and the constant atmosphere of alarm in the dense urban neighborhood. One neighbor remarked to ynet:

"By the way, regarding anti-drone protection nets - this is a bourgeois neighborhood in the center of the capital. Very dense construction. If you are afraid of drones, maybe do a favor and look out for the neighbors too, instead of just causing panic? This fortification is really frightening. What about us?"

Approximately a week ago, data revealed that the Prime's Minister Office paid 127,432,277 shekels between 2023 and 2026 for security projects across the prime minister's residences—including the official Balfour Street site, the alternative Gaza Street residence, and the private home in Caesarea. The PMO stated that the budget spike stems from changing threat levels following a drone strike on Netanyahu's Caesarea villa in 2024.
