Toyota Corolla of Journalist Nechama Duek Stolen Twice in Two Months
The Toyota Corolla of Israeli journalist Nechama Duek was stolen twice in two months. In both incidents, Israel Police and Ituran tracked and recovered the vehicle, arresting the suspects.
Prominent Israeli journalist and political commentator for Israel Hayom, Nechama Duek, who resides in Tel Aviv, experienced a highly dramatic incident in late August. While vacationing abroad, she received an urgent notification from the vehicle tracking company Ituran: her Toyota Corolla had been stolen for the second time in just two months.
High-Speed Pursuit
The event unfolded rapidly. The tracking company immediately alerted the Israel Police, and field units initiated a pursuit of the vehicle as it sped along major traffic arteries. Within approximately 30 minutes of the initial theft report, Nechama Duek received a follow-up call, this time directly from the police.
Police cruisers, assisted by Ituran enforcement agents, managed to surround and block the vehicle on Route 446. The suspect driving the stolen car was arrested and taken into custody. The apprehension took place just minutes before the driver could cross the checkpoints and disappear into Palestinian Authority-controlled territory.
Second Theft This Summer
Eyal Saar, director of operations at Ituran, commented on the unusual double incident:
"This is an extraordinary case where the same vehicle was stolen twice within a very short period. In both instances, the rapid cooperation between Ituran's enforcement network and police forces enabled us to locate the vehicle and return it to its owner within minutes."
The first theft occurred in early June. During that incident, the response was even faster: within just 5 minutes of the theft report, the vehicle was located while traveling south on the Ayalon Highway, and the suspect was arrested on the spot.
This unusual case highlights the ongoing wave of car thefts in Israel, a phenomenon affecting all sectors and regions, while emphasizing the critical role of advanced tracking technologies and synergy between security firms and law enforcement.
