Israel Railways Infrastructure Works to Bring Weekend Traffic Disruptions
Israel Railways will conduct major infrastructure works this weekend on the Ayalon Highway and Highway 531, causing lane reductions and expected traffic congestion.

Israel Railways is scheduled to conduct extensive infrastructure works this weekend along the Ayalon Highway (Highway 20) and Highway 531, bringing new traffic arrangements and lane modifications. Although the project will impact drivers in the central region and the Sharon area, Israel Railways did not issue a public press release because the roads will not be completely sealed off, though traffic congestion is expected.
Traffic Disruptions and Schedule
Official notifications were delivered directly to the relevant authorities, and navigation apps such as Waze have been updated accordingly. The works are part of a national project to extend railway platforms, aimed at accommodating longer new trains and increasing passenger capacity.
According to the approved traffic arrangements, the works will take place over the weekend without full closures, relying instead on lane reductions and traffic diversions. On the Ayalon Highway, works will begin on Friday at 20:00 and continue until Saturday at 08:00.
Broader Infrastructure Context
"Drivers are urged to prepare for heavy congestion, exercise patience, and utilize navigation applications during the weekend works."
These weekend operations add to the heavy traffic burdens that central region drivers have experienced frequently over the past year. Several of the largest infrastructure projects in the country's history are currently advancing simultaneously, including the construction of the fourth Ayalon track, railway electrification, light rail lines, and preparations for the metro project.
As a result, extensive infrastructure works frequently spill over from late night hours into early morning and off-peak times, creating severe bottlenecks even when roads are typically expected to flow freely.
