Mitch Goldhar in a major deal: Maccabi Tel Aviv star sold for 16 million shekels
Young striker Sayed Abu Farchi completes a high-profile move to the MLS and will join the Colorado Rapids after agreeing to waive a portion of his future sale percentage to secure his release.
Maccabi Tel Aviv's young talent, Sayed Abu Farchi, is opening a new chapter in his career after signing a contract on Monday with the MLS club Colorado Rapids. Abu Farchi becomes the eighth Israeli to join the American league, alongside players such as Tai Baribo, Liel Abada, Idan Toklomati, and Dor Turgeman.
The deal will bring 5.4 million dollars (approximately 16 million shekels) into the 'yellows' coffers. The release was conditional on the striker waiving about half a million dollars from the percentage clause he held from a future sale.
Abu Farchi has signed a four-year contract. For the first two years, he will earn about 450 thousand dollars per season—the maximum salary cap for players under 22 in the league—with a financial increase expected later in the contract.
The sale comes at the peak of a great period for the striker, who started the season in top form. Abu Farchi impressed with a brace in the Champion of Champions match against Hapoel Be'er Sheva, another brace in the Europa League qualifiers against Sheriff Tiraspol, and a goal in the league against Hapoel Jerusalem. Now, the Cup holder must find new offensive solutions without its young star.
