AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is planning to utilize a land plot in San Donato, originally acquired for a football stadium, to construct a 20,000-seat arena for the proposed NBA Europe league.

In February 2024, Milan purchased the land in San Donato Milanese for approximately 40 million euros to build a new stadium and move away from sharing San Siro with Inter Milan. However, plans subsequently changed as the two city rivals decided to collaborate on a modernized San Siro project, leaving Milan in possession of the acquired land.

Speaking in an interview with La Repubblica, Cardinale confirmed that the arena project is already in advanced stages. "We have everything we need to start work on a 20,000-seat arena for NBA Europe," he stated, adding that he also harbors ambitions in tennis.

The new multipurpose venue is intended to host concerts and events alongside professional basketball. While Olimpia Milan is expected to participate in the NBA Europe project, the club remains under the control of the Armani family, prompting exploration of alternative franchise acquisitions in the Lombardy region, such as Varese.
