Threats to the candidate: Ministers to decide on Shin Bet security for Gadi Eisenkot
Following new warnings, the Advisory Committee for the Protection of VIPs recommended providing tight security for the chairman of the "Yashar!" party until election day. The decision now moves to the Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs, which will also discuss the security of "The Democrats" chairman Yair Golan.
The Advisory Committee for the Protection of VIPs decided on Sunday evening that the candidate for Prime Minister and chairman of the "Yashar!" party, Gadi Eisenkot, will receive security until election day. The final decision now rests with the Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs.
The discussion was held after Eisenkot's staff presented new findings to security officials, following a controversial decision a week earlier not to provide security to the party chairman. It was further decided that the committee will convene to discuss providing security for "The Democrats" chairman Yair Golan, who has received similar threats.
The committee recommended providing special and continuous security for Gadi Eisenkot until the election date due to new warnings. The issue of Yair Golan's security is expected to be addressed at a later stage.
The Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs, which will make the final ruling, is chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Its members, as mandated by law, include:
