Former Syrian Kurdish Commander Mazloum Abdi to Serve as Presidential Advisor
Former SDF commander Mazloum Abdi will relocate to Damascus after being appointed as an advisor to Syria's acting President Ahmed al-Sharaa, focusing on the Kurdish minority portfolio.
The former commander of Kurdish forces in Syria, Mazloum Abdi, will soon relocate to Damascus to assume exclusive authority over the Kurdish minority portfolio, Arabic media outlets reported on Saturday.
An associate of the general stated that while Abdi has been officially appointed as an advisor to Syria's acting President Ahmed al-Sharaa, he has not yet assumed office. Abdi plans to move permanently to Damascus only after resolving several outstanding issues, including the return of displaced Kurds to their homes and the transfer of heavy weaponry to the Syrian army.
In his new role, Abdi will manage the Kurdish portfolio on both domestic and international levels, and oversee the work of constitutional and legal committees in the Syrian parliament.
Following the appointment, Abdi updated his social media profiles, changing his title from commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to presidential advisor. He also removed the yellow SDF flag and his military uniform photo, replacing it with a picture of himself in a civilian suit.
