The Mayor of Arad, Yair Maayan, turned to the local police commander on Saturday evening with a demand to enforce the law against ultra-Orthodox extremists, following reports of stone-throwing and spitting at young women. Maayan clarified that the city will remain secular and called on residents not to remain silent and to file formal complaints with the police.

In recent days, several violent incidents have been recorded in Arad. On Wednesday, cases of stone-throwing were documented near the Nardim area, as well as spitting at young women walking in the street. Additional incidents occurred during the Sabbath, leading the mayor to demand immediate intervention from the police.

In response to the events, Maayan clarified that the local authority will not accept criminal behavior on its territory. He noted that he had contacted the city's police station commander directly to ensure that the law is enforced against those involved and to address the incidents.

"The city of Arad was and will remain secular; we will not allow ultra-Orthodox individuals to act violently in any way," Maayan claimed.

Parallel to the demand from law enforcement agencies, the mayor appealed to the residents and asked them not to let this pass. He called on anyone who encounters such an incident to call the 100 emergency hotline immediately, summon a patrol car, and clearly document the incident. Maayan explained that filming the faces of the perpetrators and filing official complaints are the primary tools for dealing with the violence. According to him, only through the arrest of criminals will law enforcement authorities succeed in eradicating the phenomenon in the city.
