Maya Golan: “Ronen Bar sent people to threaten me”
In an interview with Galei Israel radio, Minister Maya Golan claimed that Shin Bet head Ronen Bar sent emissaries to threaten her over her decision to halt budget allocations. The minister stated she was warned of an “intifada in her name.”
Minister Maya Golan has provided a disturbing glimpse into the behind-the-scenes struggles over government budget allocations. In an interview with attorney Itzik Bonzel on the “Galei Israel” radio station, Golan confronted the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, exposing a pattern of threats and attempts to circumvent her authority.
During the interview, Golan described facing unexpected pressure, sharing direct quotes of what she experienced:
“Nothing in my life prepared me for the fact that Ronen Bar’s Shin Bet would send me not one emissary, but two, who would simply threaten me and say: ‘Ma’am, if you stop these budget allocations, there will be an intifada in your name. There will be a Maya Golan intifada.’”
These remarks led the interviewer to ask in astonishment whether the head of the security service was threatening a government minister. Golan responded that the actions against her crossed further boundaries, including attempts to politically bypass her authority by working through other government ministers close to him.
Explaining the background behind her decision to halt budget allocations, the minister highlighted the grim reality on the ground:
“All my information comes from the field — from engineers, treasurers, and heads of local authorities who stand before me in tears and tell me: ‘Maya, don’t transfer the money to us. They are extorting us, threatening us, criminal organizations are shooting at us and threatening the children in kindergarten.’”
