Abuse: Monkey kept illegally in a house in Jericho – suspect arrested
A green monkey was located and rescued overnight from a cage in a house in Jericho after suspicions arose that it was being kept there illegally. The monkey was transferred to the custody of the Nature and Parks Authority and subsequently to the Israeli Monkey Sanctuary.

The search was conducted in accordance with a court order by police officers from the Jordan Valley station, Nature and Parks Authority inspectors, the Civil Administration's nature reserves officer, and IDF soldiers from the Lavi HaBika battalion. The operation was carried out with the assistance of the Jericho District Coordination Office (DCO) and based on intelligence from the David and Gilad regions.
As part of the operation, a suspect, a resident of Ramle in her 30s, was arrested and questioned by the Nature and Parks Authority. She was released under restrictive conditions and will be summoned for further investigation on suspicion of trafficking, hunting, and illegal possession of a protected wild animal.
The police, the IDF, and the Nature and Parks Authority stated that they will continue to work in cooperation to eradicate the trade in protected wild animals, while maintaining public safety and animal welfare.
