Maccabi Tel Aviv returned from Cyprus following pre-season matches, preparing for Thursday's Supercup against Hapoel Tel Aviv amid minor injury updates on Yam Madar and Daniel Theis.
After two preparatory matches at the Nicosia tournament, Maccabi Tel Aviv returned to Israel overnight to continue preparations for the upcoming season. On Tuesday, the Yellow and Asians will hold an official pre-season press conference, ahead of Thursday's Supercup clash against Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Pre-Season Progress and Concerns
On Sunday night, Maccabi fell 77-72 to EuroLeague holders Olympiacos in Cyprus. Maccabi started the game strongly, building a double-digit lead before the Greeks fought back by halftime. Club officials expressed satisfaction with the overall performance despite the defeat, though mild concern lingered over a late-game knock sustained by Yam Madar. Fortunately, his injury proved minor, and he is expected to play on Thursday.
"There are many positive things to take away from this weekend," said a club official. "We looked very solid defensively against Olympiacos, and similarly in the first half against Aris. Things are starting to come together."-
Team Chemistry and Roster Outlook
Bonzie Colson echoed similar sentiments regarding the team's ongoing development.
"The goal in pre-season is to improve within the defensive and offensive systems," Colson summarized. "I think we made progress, moved the ball well, and stuck to our principles. We have a lot to work on, but the energy here is a huge advantage."-
Management remains unconcerned by Keaton Wallace's modest output during the pre-season games, noting that the guard is adjusting to a new level and style of play. Meanwhile, while Madar is expected on the court Thursday, center Daniel Theis remains doubtful as the club manages an ankle issue cautiously to avoid aggravation.
