Less than three months after facing off in the playoff finals, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv met for the first title of the 2026/27 season—the Super Cup. Held at the Menora Mivtachim Arena for the second consecutive year, the derby followed a turbulent summer for both clubs, highlighted by Yam Madar's sensational cross-town move to Maccabi.
Game Flow and Maccabi's Dominance
Hapoel started strong, taking an early 2-6 lead behind Oturu and Micic, but Maccabi quickly answered with three-pointers from Lundberg and Madar to turn the tide. After a tight opening quarter that ended 26:28 for the yellow-and-blue, Maccabi took control in the second period. Madar capped off a stellar first half with an incredible buzzer-beater from nearly full court, giving Maccabi a 54:42 lead at halftime.
"We played with high intensity and executed our game plan on both ends of the court when it mattered most," noted the coaching staff after the buzzer.

Maccabi continued to dominate after the break, extending their advantage to 27 points as Hapoel struggled to find answers. The final quarter turned into garbage time, as frustrated Hapoel fans chanted for coach Dimitris Itoudis to resign. When the final buzzer sounded, Maccabi cruised to a comfortable 101:83 victory to claim the first silverware of the season.
