Youth handball team continues to surge: fourth consecutive victory at the European Championship

The magical journey of the youth handball team at the European Championship continues. The team led by the coaching duo of Dor Russo and Asaf Siton achieved their fourth consecutive victory in the tournament, this time 31:22 over Austria, and will compete on Sunday against North Macedonia for ninth place on the continent. As a reminder, two days ago the team secured their participation in the U-19 World Championship next summer.

The match against North Macedonia will take place on Sunday and will conclude a huge summer for Israeli handball, after both of our youth teams qualified for the World Championship, while the youth team has already secured its place among the top ten in Europe.

The team started excellently and quickly took a 5:0 lead, with another great day in goal by Ruben Oanounou. The Austrians scored for the first time only after seven minutes, but our team continued to 9:3, as the Austrians could not really stop Yonatan Pelach, who is making his way to becoming the championship's top scorer. Rom Tovis also had a great day, and by halftime he already had five goals, and the team went into the break with a 16:10 lead.

The team got stuck at the beginning of the second half, failing to score for more than seven minutes, and the Austrians narrowed the gap to 16:14. Russo took a timeout, and it turned out to be a winning decision. Tovis drew a penalty, Pelach scored, and from there the team looked only towards victory. Tovis added more, and the team received a huge contribution from Itay Orenstein, who had barely participated until this game and scored important and beautiful goals.

Oanounou continued the great performance from the first half, Orenstein increased the lead to 22:15, and the team will welcome the Sabbath with a big smile on their faces.
