Iran Accuses Israel of Attack on Egyptian Port of Damietta

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed on Thursday that Israel is responsible for the recent attack in Egypt.

"Egypt is considered an important friend and partner in the region, and its security is a top priority for us," Araghchi stated.

He further urged vigilance against what he described as "Israeli plots" and "false flag" operations aimed at undermining regional peace.

Earlier, two Iranian sources revealed to The New York Times that the drone attack on the Damietta port was intended to demonstrate that global shipping and energy supplies could be disrupted if Iran decides to escalate the conflict. The sources did not clarify who carried out the attack or the launch site of the drone.

The Egyptian government confirmed that preliminary investigations showed the fires on two ships in the Damietta port were caused by a drone. US President Donald Trump hinted that Iran was behind the incident, calling it "just a continuation of what is happening" and adding that the United States would respond firmly.

The explosion at the port ignited fires on two vessels, including an American natural gas storage tanker. While analysts suggest the attack will not have a major impact on global energy markets compared to other regional incidents, it marks a significant expansion of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
