Aesthetics in the 'Third Age': Why Seniors Are Investing in Their Appearance
The beauty industry is increasingly catering to those aged 60, 70, and even 80+. Aesthetic medicine is helping seniors boost their confidence and self-love, while doctors emphasize the importance of maintaining a natural look.

“I was today at Prof. Eyal Gur’s, the wonderful expert in plastic surgery who did two great face surgeries for me in the past, which I remember as an uplifting experience,” says actress Sandra Sade, winner of the EMI award for lifetime achievement, who will celebrate her 77th birthday in about two months. “Today, after several years of refusal, he approved for me the option of doing a small neck surgery. It is hard for me to describe the catharsis I had from this idea.”
For Those 80+
“Sometimes, when I look at those waiting, I see quite a few people aged 80 and over, each with their own reasons,” says Dr. Lahavit Akerman, a dermatologist. “I have, for example, a regular patient who has crossed the age of 80 and is still working. She explained to me that beyond the desire to look good, she works in an environment of young people and wants to feel comfortable next to them.”
It Is Impossible to Return the Lost Years
The beauty industry, which grows by high percentages every year, has in recent years become the domain of those aged 60, 70, and even 80+. Aesthetic medicine walks hand in hand with them, blurring the signs of age and raising their level of confidence and self-love. Alongside this, quite a few doctors in the field are careful to point out the importance of maintaining a look that is as natural as possible.
“As someone who has been involved in the field of aesthetics for many years, my worldview is that you do an aesthetic treatment because you want to, not because you have to,” says Dr. Achi Friedman, a specialist in dermatology and dermo-aesthetics. “Aesthetics improves the appearance, but it does not return the years that have passed.”
