The Netherlands is preparing to return to Eurovision 2027 in Bulgaria after boycotting the 2026 contest due to Israel's participation. According to a report on the Dutch program De Oranjezomer, citing Jordi Verstegen, a media correspondent for De Telegraaf, the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS is expected to officially announce its return within two weeks and has reportedly already selected its representative: Davina Michelle.
"We are simply going," said Verstegen on air. "I heard from well-informed sources that AVROTROS will announce in two weeks that we are returning to the contest. We are going, and I wish this for everyone who loves Eurovision."
The Netherlands was part of a bloc of countries that boycotted Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, alongside Spain, Slovenia, Ireland, and Iceland. While AVROTROS has not yet released an official statement, the move has reportedly been finalized behind the scenes.
If confirmed, this would mark a significant shift from the network's stance over the past year. The Netherlands' previous participation in 2024 was also marked by controversy, when representative Joost Klein was disqualified following a confrontation with a photographer at the venue.
The likely representative, 30-year-old Davina Michelle, is already known to Eurovision fans, having appeared as a guest during the first semi-final of the 2021 contest in Rotterdam with the song The Power of Water. Recently, she was a guest on De Oranjezomer and was asked directly about the possibility of representing the country; according to the report, negotiations have now resulted in an official selection.
The last time the Netherlands participated was at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, represented by Claude with the song C’est La Vie. The entry finished 12th in the final with 175 points. This marked the 65th participation for the Netherlands, one of the seven founding countries of the contest, which has secured five victories in total—the last in 2019 with Arcade by Duncan Laurence.
