Four observers released from Hamas captivity have moved the web with a powerful viral video on TikTok. The four friends, who spent over 400 days in harsh captivity, utilized a popular drone-filming trend during a trip to South America to recreate the cynical propaganda "ceremony" that Hamas held for them in Gaza during their release, transforming it into a display of freedom and friendship.
At the beginning of the video, Daniela Gilboa is seen planning the shot and encouraging her friends: "We do it like we did on the stage in Gaza, but without shame, girls!". The footage then shifts to a favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where they emerge together through an opening while holding hands, smiling, and raising their arms in the air. The camera pulls back slowly with the help of a drone to reveal a spectacular view, exactly as they were forced to stand on stage before crowds of Gazans—but this time, on their own terms.
This viral video joins a series of gestures and moving moments of recovery for the survivors since their return home. Recently, Gilboa moved thousands of listeners when she performed the song "See You in the Next Life" by Ravid Plotnik, adding a personal verse in memory of her 18 friends from the Nahal Oz command center who were murdered in the massacre. She explained that this song, which accompanied her during her service, became a prayer of comfort for them while in captivity.
