The two band members, Robert Del Naja and Daddy G, are suspected of ending their set while holding a Palestinian flag and chanting 'Free Palestine'. Singapore maintains strict restrictions on political and public expression as part of a policy defined as maintaining social harmony. In the country, it is forbidden to display foreign flags and political symbols without written permission from the authorities. Penalties for violating the ban range from a fine of about 500 Singapore dollars (approximately 290 pounds sterling) to up to six months in prison.
A few months ago, the band's lead singer, Robert Del Naja, was arrested at a massive pro-Palestinian demonstration in London on suspicion of supporting a terrorist organization after he held up a sign in support of a group designated by UK authorities as a terrorist entity. So far, no response has been provided by the members of Massive Attack.
