Professor Roi Eldor, director of the Endocrinology Institute at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov), spoke on 103FM this Monday about the growing trend of weight loss injections, their clinical effectiveness, and the potential side effects associated with the treatment.

According to Professor Eldor, the prevalence of obesity in Israel explains the surging demand for such interventions:

"More than half of the adult population in Israel suffers from overweight or obesity. From a public health perspective, most causes of mortality and morbidity are linked to obesity and its complications, including metabolic diseases, diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders, orthopedic issues, tumors, and infections."

He noted that when treatment is administered under professional supervision and with consistency, the results can be significant:

"When these injections are used properly, with medical guidance and persistence, we see very high effectiveness. This often leads to significant weight loss, which greatly improves the patient's overall well-being."

Furthermore, he explained that these drugs are being evaluated not only for weight reduction but also for their impact on obesity-related complications:

"These drugs are being studied in the context of obesity complications. We have an injection that has been shown to protect the heart and brain from cardiovascular events. There is evidence of protection against sleep apnea, and we are gathering more data indicating that these medications also treat morbidity caused by obesity."
