The role Gal Gadot auditioned for before "Wonder Woman"

The Israeli star revealed in a new interview that ten years ago, when she was already known in Hollywood after playing in "Fast & Furious", she auditioned to play Furiosa in the movie "Mad Max: Fury Road". The role was eventually given to Charlize Theron, but Gadot was left with good memories from the audition: "It was crazy! I auditioned with Tom Hiddleston and he was so amazing."

From Wonder Woman, through Gisele in Fast & Furious, to the Evil Queen in Snow White, Gal Gadot has already accumulated quite a few big roles on screen — and let's not forget that it all started with Mari Elkayam in Bubot. But it turns out there is another big role she auditioned for, which almost made it into her resume: Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road.

In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where she also spoke about parting ways with Wonder Woman, Gadot revealed that she auditioned for the role of Furiosa, the lieutenant of Immortan Joe, back when she was already a known name in Hollywood after playing in three films in the Fast & Furious series and Date Night. As part of the audition, which was held in London, she spent no less than four hours alongside Tom Hiddleston (Loki), who also auditioned for the film.

"It was crazy," Gadot said. "I arrived with all the layers, it was a cold winter day in London. I went out in a tank top. It was so intense, the work we did and how much we filmed. It was amazing."

Furiosa was eventually played by Charlize Theron, while Tom Hardy was cast as Max. When Gadot was asked if she was surprised she didn't get the role, she replied: "Yes, because I felt good about the work we did in the audition." Regarding Hiddleston, she added: "He is an amazing actor. By the way, I haven't seen him since! And I didn't know him then. He was a great theater actor in England. He was so amazing, and it felt really good... George Miller, the director, had a clear vision of what he wanted."

Mad Max: Fury Road won six Oscars at the 2016 Academy Awards. Gadot, for her part, later received the lead role in Wonder Woman, the DC comic book adaptation released in 2017, and continued to play the superheroine in the two sequels. These days she is promoting her new film The Runner, and in the interviews she gave, she also said goodbye to Wonder Woman and explained why she will not return to the superheroine's shoes.
