The peak of the heat is still ahead: a red warning for residents and travelers in Israel

The Meteorological Service published this morning (Wednesday) a "red warning" regarding extreme heat loads, right at the peak of the "Bein HaZmanim" vacation. The warning regarding severe heat hazards is especially valid for the areas of the Beit She'an Valley, the Kinneret Valley, the Jordan Valley, the southern Judean Desert, the Dead Sea, and the northern Arava. Travelers and residents are urged to exercise extreme caution, avoid exposed routes, and drink plenty of fluids.

Today's weather is characterized by a rise in temperatures, mainly in the mountains and the interior of the country, where it is hotter than usual and dry. On the coastal plain, by contrast, residents will suffer from high humidity and muggy, oppressive weather. During the night hours, visibility restrictions and fog are possible in the southern coastal plain, the southern Shefela, and the northwestern Negev, but the respite from the heat will be short-lived.

The heatwave will intensify in the coming days. Tomorrow (Thursday) there will be another slight rise in temperatures, and it will become hot (sharav) in the interior of the country and muggy on the coast, with heavy to extreme heat loads in most areas. The peak of the heat will continue to accompany us on Friday and on the holy Sabbath, when a further intensification will be felt that will make staying outdoors difficult throughout the country.

Temperatures across the country will reach peaks: in Jerusalem 18–32, in Tel Aviv 24–31, in Haifa 23–31, and in Be'er Sheva 21–35. In the north, in Safed 18–33 will be measured, and in Tiberias 22–37 degrees. Eilat leads the table with 41 degrees at noon. The public is requested to prepare accordingly, stay in air-conditioned spaces, and look after vulnerable populations.
