The powerful explosion in southern Lebanon, carried out in response to the launch of a Hezbollah explosive drone at an IDF engineering vehicle, was clearly visible in the area. There are reports of two wounded in a drone attack in the area; this is how the ridge looked the day after.
On the night between Thursday and Friday, in response to Hezbollah's launch of an explosive drone at an IDF engineering vehicle in southern Lebanon — which constituted a violation of the ceasefire — the IDF destroyed tunnels belonging to the terrorist organization in the Beaufort fortress area using approximately 700 tons of explosives. The powerful explosion, before which residents of the Galilee Panhandle were asked to leave their windows open for fear they would shatter, was clearly visible in the area.
Meanwhile, in Lebanon, reports were received today of an attack in the town of An-Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa, located a few kilometers northwest of Beaufort. According to the Lebanese news agency, there are two wounded at the scene.
The IDF stated yesterday after the destruction of the tunnels:
"As part of limited activity within the security zone in Lebanon, forces of the 36th Division, led by the Northern Command, destroyed a number of central underground routes in the Beaufort ridge area. The infrastructure network served as a central command complex, from which they managed the fighting and directed fire against IDF forces and citizens of the State of Israel."
According to the IDF, "This is a strategic infrastructure network built over two decades, constructed of several levels, and served as a central terror headquarters for the 'Badr' unit in southern Lebanon, which was funded and planned by the Iranian terror regime." The infrastructure was established at a distance of about six kilometers from Metula and the Galilee Panhandle, and from it, dozens of UAVs, explosive drones, and anti-tank missiles were launched.
"Tonight, the IDF destroyed a significant part of the tunnel network in the area," it was reported yesterday. "Over the past few weeks, IDF forces completed their hold on the Beaufort ridge area, while controlling and clearing the underground infrastructure and preparing it for destruction."
IDF forces continue to operate in the Ali Taher ridge area as well, where the explosive drone hit the engineering vehicle. In recent weeks, IDF forces prepared the tunnel network for destruction, and upon completion of the operational conditions, it was decided to destroy the central infrastructure under the Beaufort ridge. These are not tunnels where Hezbollah terrorists are hiding, and there are currently a few other underground routes remaining in the area, which the IDF is monitoring. On July 13, IDF forces destroyed one tunnel from the tunnel network, and after yesterday, most of the tunnel network in the Beaufort area was effectively destroyed.
