In recent days, a video of a Chihuahua named Nini has gone viral on TikTok, and not because it's just another cute dog video. 11-year-old Nini was diagnosed with cancer, and his owner, Sarah Kohler, decided to take him on their last adventure together — a trip to a private island in Norway. There, he got to run in green fields, sail in the fjords, and spend time with his family, just before the disease might take these things away from him.

Because if it's going to be a last trip, why not on a private island?

Kohler said that after the diagnosis, she did not want to let the disease take over the time they had left. Nini is currently nearing the end of 19 weeks of chemotherapy treatments, and after months of visits to the veterinarian, she wanted to see him free and carefree again. They traveled to the Hardanger region, where Nini walked without a leash, explored the landscape, and went on a boat trip.

The video of Nini managed to sweep the web: it has already garnered over 580,000 views and hundreds of comments. Users did not remain indifferent, flooding Kohler with stories about pets they lost to cancer and about those still undergoing treatment. She, for her part, admitted that she did not expect the sheer volume of responses.

Nini on a dream vacation

One has to admit that there is something almost ironic here: while most of us debate whether to book a vacation or stay home to save money, a five-kilo Chihuahua gets a private island in Norway, fjords, and a boat trip. True, in his case the reason is tragic, but Kohler is trying to make the time they have left together as meaningful as possible. It's hard not to think that if one is to be born a dog, perhaps it's worth going for a Chihuahua with loving owners.

For Kohler, the goal is much more than a vacation. She opened the account to document Nini's journey with the illness, raise awareness about cancer in dogs, and mainly to give other pet owners a feeling that they are not alone. And in the meantime, while the whole of TikTok is moved and crying with her, Nini is doing what he knows best: enjoying the view, the family, and the time he has left.
