Israel Railways Board Reappoints Avshalom Elmalich as Acting CEO
The Board of Directors of Israel Railways has decided that Avshalom Elmalich will serve as acting CEO. Elmalich, currently the VP of Planning and Operations, previously held the role until taking medical leave earlier this year.

The Board of Directors of Israel Railways decided yesterday (Sunday) that Avshalom Elmalich will serve as acting CEO. Elmalich, who serves as VP of Planning and Operations and acting Deputy CEO, served as the company's acting CEO until last March, but was then forced to take leave for health reasons. He was replaced by Avner Flor, who has now been approved by the Appointments Committee as the company's chairman.
For both appointments to take effect, the Appointments Committee must now approve Elmalich. As recalled, last week the committee did not approve the appointment of Yaakov Marciano as acting CEO due to limited and short experience in the field. Marciano's appointment even caused a storm, with two directors resigning in protest.
Either way, the saga continues. The last permanent CEO of the railway, Moshe (Shiko) Zana, announced his resignation in July last year. Since then, and for a year, the company has been managed by acting CEOs, with the search committee expected to launch another search round after failing to find a suitable candidate.
