Middle East expert Yoni Ben-Menachem described in an interview with Tal Meir how Qatar and Turkey are working behind the scenes to promote an agreement with the terrorist organization Hamas, attempting to shift the focus of pressure onto Israel through the American administration.
Ben-Menachem explained that the mediating countries are trying to hold a meeting in Cairo, after which they will turn to Washington with a request to exert pressure on Israel to implement the deal:
"Their very great fear is that the right-wing government led by Benjamin Netanyahu will not take any action on this matter ahead of the elections in Israel at the end of October this year."
The expert added that, in parallel, preparations for the implementation of the outline have already begun in the Gaza Strip. Committees are being established to register the weapons in the hands of Hamas and locate storage sites.
"Within 14 days all preparations are supposed to be completed, and then the pressure on Israel to start implementing the agreement will increase," he emphasized.
"Ultimately, their plan is to go to Donald Trump," Ben-Menachem explained, noting that both Turkey and Qatar, who cooked up this agreement behind the scenes, aim to move the ball into Israel's court to trigger American pressure.
Meanwhile, despite optimism in Israel, the expert assessed that Hamas will not actually disarm. He emphasized that the issue is not limited to Hamas alone, as the Islamic Jihad in the Strip has also announced its opposition to the agreement, raising the question of who would disarm them as well.
