Chief of Staff in Syria: "We will not allow hostile forces to establish themselves on our borders"
Eyal Zamir held a situation assessment and tour with senior Northern Command officers, clarifying that the IDF is monitoring changes on the Syrian front. "We have created a forward defense zone that serves as a buffer in front of the communities." On the multi-front war: "We must be in constant readiness."
The Chief of Staff, Rav-Aluf Eyal Zamir, visited the 210th Division today (Wednesday) and held an operational situation assessment and tour in southern Syria. During the visit, Zamir clarified that the IDF is monitoring developments in the arena and will not allow hostile forces to establish themselves near Israel's border.
Zamir was accompanied on the visit by the Commander of the Northern Command, Aluf Rafi Milo, the Commander of the 210th Division, Tat-Aluf Yair Palai, the Commander of the 474th Regional Brigade, Aluf-Mishne Y., and other commanders. During the tour, the Chief of Staff spoke with reserve soldiers in the field and expressed his appreciation for their activity in the sector.
"We are operating in a multi-front reality, where challenges are constantly changing and developing. The Syrian arena is one of them. We see what is happening and are monitoring the changes on the Syrian front. We must prepare for them accordingly. We will not allow hostile forces to establish themselves on our borders, and we will know how to use our power precisely where it is needed and when it is needed."
The Chief of Staff added that the IDF is required "to prevent the development of terror threats, and at the same time to prevent the formation of a significant military threat on our borders." According to him, "Even in Syria, we have created a forward defense zone that serves as a buffer in front of the communities, where our forces are operating."
Zamir also addressed the possibility of renewed flare-ups on the various fronts: "We are still in a multi-front war, alert and operating in all arenas. Escalation can develop in any of them, and we must be in constant readiness for it."
Later, the Chief of Staff addressed the reserve soldiers and said: "I want to express great appreciation for the reserve forces that are here. I met a high-quality and professional reserve battalion here, reservists who have served hundreds of days since the beginning of the war." According to him, he is aware of the burden placed on the service members and their families and is working to ease it for them.
