Bus Driver Muatasem Kak Attacked in Jerusalem

Bus driver Muatasem Kak was brutally attacked in Jerusalem by a group of teenagers while he was stopped at a traffic light.

“Suddenly I hear shaking in the bus, banging, something scary,” he recalls the moments of horror in an interview with the program “HaOlam HaBoker” (“The World This Morning”). According to him, after the attackers smashed the bus mirror, he looked out to understand what was happening and was hit hard in the face.

“As soon as I stuck my head out, I got hit, I don’t know... was it a stone, wood, iron. I lost consciousness,” Kak described the blow that broke four of his teeth and caused him to lose consciousness.

Beyond the trauma and physical injury, Kak is dealing with enormous financial damage. The blow he sustained shattered not only his teeth but also an expensive investment he had made just a few months before the incident.

“I have four teeth in the front, and inside they are loose,” he says with pain, revealing that he had recently undergone expensive dental implants: “I did an implant a few months ago. I put in a pile of money, 50 thousand shekels it cost me, everything is gone. And headaches until now, I can’t eat or drink.”

However, the scars left by the attack are much deeper than the physical and financial damage. Kak describes a paralyzing fear that prevents him from returning to his job and supporting his family.

“My heart is broken, I am afraid to return to the steering wheel,” he admits with pain. The sense of personal injustice is unbearable for him: “I was hurt in my soul, in my heart, my heart is broken. Believe me, I don’t deserve this.”
