PMO on Hamas disarmament plan: "A vision disconnected from reality"

The spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, Doron Spielman, clarified on Monday that Israel has conveyed its comments and reservations regarding the proposed plan for the disarmament of Hamas to its counterparts in the United States, emphasizing that the published text does not reflect the position of Jerusalem.

According to Spielman, Israeli intelligence indicates that over the past eight months, Hamas has used the ceasefire to rearm, recruit thousands of terrorists, rehabilitate its military infrastructure, and prepare for further massacres in the format of October 7.

United States President Donald Trump addressed the agreement to disarm Hamas for the first time, emphasizing the significance of the move:

"Many said that this is a deal that cannot be implemented. Will there be ups and downs? Yes, but no one thought that it was possible to disarm Hamas. People in the Middle East are happy about this."

Trump added that the body leading the process of removing weapons from the terrorist organization would primarily operate under the responsibility of the Peace Council.

Furthermore, Spielman sharply criticized the first clause of the plan, which defines the Gaza Strip as a "de-radicalized area, free of terror and which does not pose a threat." He noted that this vision stands in direct contradiction to the reality on the ground and the declared intentions of Hamas:

"The first and necessary step towards any arrangement is a real, verifiable, and irreversible demilitarization of Hamas - meaning the actual surrender of its weapons."

In conclusion, he warned that any other plan would leave the terrorist organization with the capability to return and threaten Israel.
