Attorney Zion Amir: "The Tiberias case may end in a whimper"

Ironi Tiberias will appear in court on Wednesday for the first hearing in the infusion affair. Attorney Zion Amir has joined Eyal Yaffe to represent the club, having previously advised behind the scenes while studying the evidence. This evening (Monday), Amir was interviewed on the 103fm sports program and expressed his opinion on the case.

"The indictment is the starting point of the legal process, and it is only the beginning of the journey to clarify the truth," said the top attorney, an expert in criminal law. "The truth must be clarified in court, after hearing evidence and witnesses, and after a thorough investigation of all these issues. Believe me, I know one thing: there are very good arguments — both on the factual and legal levels — and this may end in a whimper."

He further stated:

"What will matter is whether what needs to be proven is proven, and that is one very simple thing: did those players receive more than 100 ml of saline on April 30? Saline is not a prohibited substance in itself. If it was taken within a 12-hour period and did not exceed 100 ml, then everything is fine. Someone managed, with extraordinary talent, to take something that is not only not a big deal — it is nothing. To act as if they caught Ben Johnson is simply not the case. It is saline, which was administered in the right amount and at the right time. We will make every effort to prove this in court."

When asked why Tiberias hired such a high-profile lawyer if their case is so well-founded, Amir replied:

"That is like asking: if the situation of Ashdod, which is the complainant in this case, is so good, why did they hire attorney Amit Hadad?"
