Years after the conviction of former president Moshe Katsav for serious sex offenses and two acts of rape, his defense attorney, Zion Amir, refuses to back down from his position. In an interview for the Asenheim program on Reshet 13, Amir clarified that despite the court's detailed verdict, he remains convinced to this day of his former client's innocence: "I have no shadow of a doubt that he did not rape."

During the interview, Omri Asenheim pressed lawyer Amir and reminded him of the harsh findings in the case, according to which Katsav committed serious, forbidden, and malicious acts against women under his authority. In response, Amir chose not to enter into a detailed discussion about the legal evidence, but rather to emphasize his perception of the defense role: "I have an ethical obligation to my client. One thing I will tell you: they convicted an innocent president." When Asenheim pressed further to understand if it was a matter of full innocence or only a legal doubt regarding the rape charge, Amir concluded the discussion with a firm position: "He did not rape, period."

Amir's words, spoken long after Katsav finished serving his prison sentence, demonstrate the criminal defense attorney's uncompromising loyalty to his client, even in the face of a final ruling by the highest courts.
