The National Insurance Institute announces that today, Thursday, child allowances will be distributed to those eligible. A child allowance is a payment that the government agency transfers to families in Israel for children up to the age of 18 to assist with upbringing expenses.

The allowance is paid regardless of family income. Eligibility is generally met when the child meets three conditions: they are under 18, reside in Israel, and are not married. In a family where both parents live with the children, it is usually paid to the mother. In cases of divorced parents, the payment method may change depending on where the children reside and according to an agreement between the parents or a court ruling.

As of January 1, 2026, the amount is determined according to the child's position in the family:

  1. First child: 173 NIS

  2. Second child: 219 NIS

  3. Third child: 219 NIS

  4. Fourth child: 219 NIS

  5. Fifth child and onwards: 173 NIS

"Savings for Every Child" program

Alongside the allowance, the National Insurance Institute deposits 58 NIS per month for every child eligible for a child allowance into the "Savings for Every Child" program. Parents can choose to transfer an additional 58 NIS from the child allowance to the savings, thus reaching a monthly deposit of 116 NIS.

Grants

When the child turns 18, a grant of 582 NIS will be deposited into the savings account. Furthermore, if the child does not withdraw the savings funds by the age of 21, an additional grant of 582 NIS will be deposited into the savings at age 21.

Children born from January 1, 2017, will not receive a grant at age 18, but will receive a grant of 291 NIS at age 3, and a grant of 291 NIS at the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah (13 for boys and 12 for girls). If the child does not withdraw the savings funds by the age of 21, they will receive a final grant of 582 NIS. Management fees for the savings will be paid by the National Insurance Institute until the child turns 21. After age 21, management fees will be deducted from the savings account.
