National Insurance Institute: Child allowance payments scheduled for August 20
All parents of children up to age 18 are entitled to a monthly payment from the National Insurance Institute. Learn how the amounts are calculated, when funds are transferred, and when an application is required.
We at ice are organizing the information regarding child allowances from the National Insurance Institute, which are intended to assist parents in Israel in covering the ongoing costs of raising children. The allowance is paid monthly to all Israeli residents who meet the eligibility criteria, for children until they reach the age of 18, regardless of the family's income level.
The monthly allowance amount is calculated based on the child's birth order. For the first child, and for the fifth child onwards, an amount of 173 shekels per month is paid. For the second, third, and fourth child, an increased amount of 219 shekels is paid for each. In addition to the monthly allowance, the National Insurance Institute deposits a designated amount each month into the "Savings for Every Child" program, which parents can double using the allowance funds.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the average number of children per family in Israel stands at 2.44, resulting in an allowance of 488.36 shekels for such a family. The allowance is transferred regularly on the 20th of each month to the bank account of the mother or the parent who has custody of the child.
In most cases, eligibility is processed completely automatically: upon birth in an Israeli hospital, registration is transferred directly from the hospital to the National Insurance Institute. However, in special cases such as adoption, home birth, or immigration, it is required to submit a claim in advance online via the National Insurance Institute website or at a branch.
