Lando Norris, the Formula 1 world champion, achieved his first pole position of 2026 today (Saturday) and ended the Mercedes team's streak of 10 consecutive qualifying session wins. The British McLaren driver set the fastest lap for the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing with a narrow margin of 0.012 seconds ahead of his compatriot Lewis Hamilton from Ferrari.

Charles Leclerc, the other Ferrari driver, will start from third place, while Kimi Antonelli, the leader of the drivers' standings, will start alongside him from fourth place, after he and George Russell split all the previous qualifying sessions this season (the Italian won six times, the Briton four times), which were, as mentioned, under the complete control of Mercedes.

Oscar Piastri, Norris's partner at McLaren, will start fifth and Max Verstappen sixth for Red Bull. Russell is only seventh.

Drivers' Standings:

  1. Kimi Antonelli (Italy, Mercedes) — 204 points

  2. Lewis Hamilton (Great Britain, Ferrari) — 159

  3. George Russell (Great Britain, Mercedes) — 154

  4. Charles Leclerc (Monaco, Ferrari) — 126

  5. Lando Norris (Great Britain, McLaren) — 103
