Love in Chapter Two: Hason and Pansy found each other after years of loss
Two elderly dogs who were abandoned and lost their partners have become an inseparable couple at the shelter. The 'Foster for Life' project, which covers medical expenses and food, aims to help them find a warm home together.
While many were celebrating Tu B'Av, an unusual love story was unfolding at the 'Let the Animals Live' shelter — one that reminds us that it is never too late to find comfort and a new connection.
Hason, a 14-year-old dog, is one of the longest-standing residents of the place. He arrived at the shelter back in 2013, and over the years experienced disappointments when attempts to adopt him were unsuccessful. For more than a decade, he shared a cage with his partner Gemma, but in August 2025 she passed away from an illness, leaving him alone.
At the same time, Pansy, an 8-year-old dog who arrived at the organization after being abandoned and tied to a fence, also dealt with loss. Her partner Charlie died, and she was left lonely. The staff at the place, who noticed the distress of the two, decided to try and bring them together.
The connection, it turns out, was immediate. Since then, Hason and Pansy have become an inseparable couple: they sleep together, eat together, spend time side by side, and find it difficult to be apart.
«They went through abandonment, loss, and long years in a cage, and yet they managed to open their hearts again», — says Dr. Sharon Maoz Navon, the shelter manager.
The organization now hopes that the story will not end within the walls of the cage. Hason and Pansy are participating in the 'Foster for Life' project, under which the adoption is carried out at no cost, medical care is funded by the organization, and the adopting family also receives food for them.
The goal: to find a warm home for the two — together.
