A dramatic development in the case of the tragic death of Eldar Dayan, whose body was found in the Yarkon River area. His friends, Maxim Barberman and Omri Peretz, who were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder and whose detention was extended by six days, are beginning to shed light on what happened that fateful night.

According to details published on mako, before his arrest, Barberman shared his version of the events with an associate. According to him, the three got into a violent brawl with a group of youths at the Yarkon, during which Dayan suffered heavy blows to his head.

"We ran to a gas station and bought him a bottle of water. We saw a police car and fled the scene," Barberman said.

He explained that the fear of Dayan's arrest, who was in their view "on the run," prevented them from reporting it to the police. He further added: "We are childhood friends, there is no reason for us to harm him. We looked for him in the area but did not find him, we thought he would return to Dimona on his own."

In the police, they identify the breaking of silence by the two as a turning point, and it is possible that investigative tactics led them to cooperate and describe the route from the Yarkon to the gas station. Sources familiar with the details note that the picture is becoming clearer, and the assessment is that the case is expected to be solved within a few days.

On the other hand, Dayan's family refuses to accept the version of Barberman and Peretz. A relative expressed complete disbelief and claimed to mako that "Maxim set Eldar up." According to him, the footage from the gas station where Dayan is seen healthy and whole does not fit with the finding of his body in a pit: "Something happened there, he didn't just die like that."

The tragedy intensified when Dayan's mother arrived at the scene where the body was found, after hearing about it from the media and not from an official source. The grieving mother confronted the police officers at the scene in tears and shouted: "Take me to my child now."
