Scribe Therapeutics, an American biotechnology company developing advanced genetic drugs, surprised investors with a sharp jump in its stock price on its first day of trading as a public company.

The stock rose by nearly 48.6% during afternoon trading, opening at $25 and reaching a daily high of $25.49. These figures were recorded after the company priced its expanded IPO at $15 per share. On the evening prior to the pricing, the biotechnology firm raised $128.7 million.

Sanofi, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, participated in a parallel private placement and purchased 500,000 shares at the IPO price. Eli Lilly, which held approximately 12.4% of the company before the offering, announced its intention to purchase additional shares to maintain a stake of about 11%.

As of the time of writing, the stock is up by 44.33%. According to data from the Investing website, Scribe Therapeutics' revenue totals $36.282 billion, and its market capitalization stands at $381.3 million.

Scribe Therapeutics, a developer of advanced genetic drugs based on CRISPR genome editing technologies, was founded by researcher and Nobel laureate Professor Jennifer Doudna. The company focuses on engineering bacterial immune systems to create more precise and safer editing tools for severe diseases.
