Game of Thrones actor Tom Chadbon dies at 80

English actor Tom Chadbon, known for his roles in "Doctor Who" and "Game of Thrones," has died at the age of 80. During a career spanning more than five decades, he appeared in more than 100 productions, with his first television appearances dating back to the late 1960s. Fans have paid tribute to him on social media, describing him as an "excellent actor" with an "impressive work ethic."

The news of his death was confirmed by Fantom Events, a company that worked with Chadbon on various events and promoted several "Doctor Who" autograph sessions:

"Tom Chadbon passed away last weekend. He was a familiar face to many thanks to his many roles in television and film. He was always a warm and friendly person to work with, and we send our condolences to his family at this difficult time."

One of Chadbon's most prominent roles was in the British science fiction series "Doctor Who," where he played the private detective Duggan alongside Tom Baker's Doctor in the 1979 mini-series "City of Death." The four episodes aired between September and October of that year, with the final episode drawing more than 16 million viewers and becoming the most-watched in the series' history, according to the BBC.

Later in his career, Chadbon participated in several television series, including "Peep Show," "The Bill," and "Midsomer Murders." In 2006, he played a stockbroker in the first of five James Bond films starring Daniel Craig. His final credited appearance was in an episode of "Game of Thrones" in 2017, in which he played High Septon Maynard.
