The Mossad and CIA Hunt for Mojtaba Khamenei

Although not discussed publicly, the hunt for Mojtaba Khamenei occupies both the Mossad and the CIA. This was reported in the British "Times", which described how the two intelligence agencies are trying to trace the footsteps of the new Supreme Leader of Iran, who has not been seen in public since the liquidation of his father at the end of February — an attack in which he himself was also wounded.

The health condition of Khamenei the son is unclear. Various reports have been published over the last half year regarding the severity of his injuries, ranging from minor injuries that allow him to function as the leader of the Ayatollah regime, to severe injuries manifesting in deformities, which have effectively turned him into a puppet ruler in the hands of other elements in Tehran. The "Times" noted that the "silence" surrounding Mojtaba constitutes the greatest challenge for Israel and the USA.

The newspaper claimed that it seems Khamenei the son has not picked up a phone or opened a laptop for more than 150 days. He is staying inside an underground bunker, and his face is distorted due to the injuries he sustained in the airstrike in which his father was killed. He is afraid to leave the bunker during daylight hours due to the fear of being identified by an American spy satellite.

To locate the position of Khamenei the father before his liquidation, Israel and the USA used every possible cyber trick, including hacking into traffic cameras throughout Tehran to locate the vehicles used by his bodyguards. This is how the American NSA and the Israeli Unit 8200 were able to know where senior officials were staying on February 28.

However, in the attempt to locate Mojtaba, Israeli and American intelligence are forced to rely only on HUMINT — human intelligence. The "Times" emphasized that some in the intelligence community believe Mojtaba was liquidated back on February 28 or died of his wounds later, and that the Revolutionary Guards are lying regarding his survival. Both agencies are trying to confirm if he is hiding in one of the underground tunnels in Tehran or in a military bunker near the city of Qom.

Rami Igra, former head of the captives and missing persons division in the Mossad, told the "Times" that if Mojtaba is still alive, he likely uses paper notes passed between messengers. Former senior Mossad official Avner Avraham added that the Ayatollah regime also uses doubles to disguise his location. Mojtaba did not attend any of his father's funeral events, and all statements published in his name are conveyed in writing, never in his voice.
