An Egyptian source familiar with the details told the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat today, Sunday, that arrangements are being made to hold a quadrilateral meeting of mediators — Egypt, Qatar, the USA, and Turkey — this week. The goal is to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire understandings in the Gaza Strip.
According to the source, "the intensive Egyptian contacts are building on a more significant role and pressure from US President Donald Trump on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu." Preparations for the meeting are accelerating, aimed at monitoring the Israeli side and ensuring compliance with the agreements reached.
"The mediators are counting on a more significant role from the American president, and the contacts rely on his direct involvement to ensure the completion of the key steps and to exert pressure on Netanyahu, against the backdrop of leaks regarding reservations about the understandings or possible obstacles on his part until the elections in Israel are held."
American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to arrive in the region soon to coordinate these preparations. A gradual entry of a "technocrat committee" into the Gaza Strip is also anticipated. The source emphasized that the top priority is ensuring their entry and presence, and preventing any Israeli actions that could sabotage the process.
Separately, a source within Hamas told the Saudi news site Asharq that mediators have informed the organization that Israel will fully cease all attacks, including aerial and artillery bombardment, starting today. Another source familiar with the negotiations told Asharq that both the mediators and Hamas are waiting for an official Israeli response following the government meeting on Monday, assessing that:
