Montreal's response to the "Death to Israel" chants against Dor Turgeman
During an MLS match last Saturday, the Israeli striker Dor Turgeman was targeted by "Death to Israel" chants from local fans in Montreal.
During the match held last Saturday in the American soccer league MLS, chants of "Death to Israel" were directed at the Israeli striker, Dor Turgeman, by the local crowd in Montreal. Turgeman was not fazed by the chants, and after a few minutes, he scored a goal for the New England Revolution and celebrated defiantly in front of the fans. Following the celebration, a commotion broke out on the pitch, during which the Montreal goalkeeper lunged at the striker.
Montreal responded and condemned the chants: "CF Montréal is aware of allegations regarding discriminatory comments directed at a player by fans during last night's match against the New England Revolution. The club has zero tolerance for discrimination or hateful behavior of any kind."
The Canadian club continued: "We take these allegations very seriously and are currently investigating the matter. We are in contact with MLS and the New England Revolution as part of efforts to determine all the facts and take the necessary steps."
On the pitch, the game ended in a 2:2 draw. New England was leading 0:2, partly thanks to Turgeman's goal, but Montreal came back in the second half with two goals within seven minutes. For Turgeman, this is his second consecutive goal after returning to scoring in the previous round, as well as an unusual incident that placed him at the center of attention in the United States and Canada.
