Police request to extend the detention of Eldar Dayan's friends on suspicion of murder

As we first reported, the police are requesting a 15-day extension of the detention of Maxim Barberman and Omri David Peretz, friends of Eldar Dayan, on suspicion of involvement in his murder. Following the hearing, the suspects are expected to undergo further interrogation regarding the circumstances of his death.

The main suspects in the case, Maxim Barberman and Omri David Peretz, were arrested following their involvement in a violent incident and a brawl that broke out in the Yarkon Park area last month, which included suspicions of attempted vehicular assault and threats. The discovery of a body in an advanced state of decomposition in an open area near the Yarkon interchange, close to where the group was last seen, has led the investigation team to toughen the legal charges. The body was transferred to the National Center of Forensic Medicine for identification and to clarify the circumstances of death.

In previous hearings, the two were charged with offenses including endangering human life with a vehicle, obstruction of justice, and destruction of evidence; it was also revealed that they had threatened Dayan himself. Now, in light of the discovery of the body and additional findings, investigators are preparing to confront them with the serious suspicion of direct involvement in his death, despite their continued refusal to cooperate.

The disappearance case began after Dayan sent a message to his family noting that a violent brawl had broken out. Since then, the police had conducted extensive searches for weeks. Defense attorneys Roee Lang and Guy Ein Zvi argue in court that their clients are being held in detention while the facts of the case remain unresolved, as the family anxiously awaits results from the forensic institute.
