Police change strategy: Eldar Dayan case transferred to Sharon Yamar
After the Dimona station exhausted its leads, the search for Eldar Dayan and the investigation into the preceding brawl were transferred to the Sharon Yamar. Police have no information regarding a reported contact between Dayan and his father.
The investigation into the disappearance of Eldar Dayan from Dimona has been transferred to the responsibility of the Central Unit (Yamar) of the Sharon District. This comes a week after the decision was made to split the investigation between the Central and Southern districts: the Petah Tikva police station was responsible for investigating the brawl and the hit-and-run accident, while the Dimona station was responsible for investigating the circumstances of Dayan's disappearance.
It has now emerged that the Sharon Yamar will lead both the search efforts for the missing person and the investigation into the brawl that preceded his disappearance.
The decision was made following a situational assessment held by the Central District Commander, Commissioner Amir Cohen, with the participation of the officials handling the case. Previously, Cohen consulted with the head of the police's Investigations and Intelligence Division, Commissioner Boaz Blat, who received a comprehensive review of the developments in the case.
Police noted that the Dimona station in the Southern District updated that it had exhausted the search operations and lines of inquiry under its responsibility. Consequently, it was decided to centralize all investigative and search activities under one unit.
The Sharon Yamar will now deploy the investigative capabilities and operational means of the Central District in an attempt to trace Dayan's whereabouts and clarify the circumstances of his disappearance.
We note that today, a person close to the missing man posted a claim that Dayan had apparently made contact with his father from his hiding place. The police are not aware of these details.
