Mother of soldier whose weapon was snatched criticizes rules of engagement

Sarah Shulman, the mother of the soldier whose weapon was snatched by terrorists over the weekend, was interviewed today (Monday) on Channel 14's "Open Studio" and protested against the rules of engagement. During the interview, Shulman stated that her son did not feel he had the opportunity to defend himself, as he was afraid and did not feel safe using his weapon.

From Channel 14 broadcasts:

"My son arrived at a place where he did not have the right to defend himself. They came at him with threats, beat him, and harmed him. In the end, he was afraid and did not feel safe using the weapon – which is exactly what could have protected him and prevented everything that happened."

The soldier's mother continued:

"I believe that the people of Israel need to come to their senses. Just as we are not afraid now in Lebanon and know how to say 'enough!' and establish security zones, the same thing needs to happen in the Gaza envelope and in Judea and Samaria."

Shulman added: "We need to eradicate any 'raising of the head' that could harm us. We must enter villages, conduct serious clean-up operations, and ensure proper deterrence. I believe the outlook should be from a place of strength, not weakness or fear, so that a soldier knows: 'I am standing in front of an enemy'."

During the incident over the weekend, four terrorists snatched a weapon from a soldier on leave in the Hebron Hills area. Immediately after the incident, IDF forces scanned the area, located the weapon, and arrested two terrorists. Overnight, fighters from the Duvdevan unit carried out an operation in the city of Yatta within the Judea Brigade and arrested another terrorist involved in the weapon snatching.
