Nikki Goldstein's mother: "I received the shock of my life, went through a difficult upheaval and ended up in the hospital"

The comedian's mother spoke in an interview about the reaction to the dramatic change he made in his life a few years ago when he came out of the closet and began a relationship with someone who had been his best friend for years. "There was no sign of it, but of course we accepted him with great love," said Madeleine Goldstein.

About four years ago, comedian and actor Nikki Goldstein decided to come out, separate from his wife Shirley, and share his relationship with Eyal Shalom, who had been his best friend for many years. Since then, the two documented their relationship as part of the "Goldsteins" show, were engaged, and even separated. This Sunday, Nikki's mother, Madeleine, addressed the dramatic changes he went through in his life.

"It surprised me too, I didn't know where his heart was. I received the shock of my life, went through a difficult upheaval, and even ended up in the hospital," she said in an interview with Yoav Limor and Nesli Barda, adding with a smile: "I didn't know or think about it at all; he was always surrounded by friends. There was no sign. Of course, we accepted him with great love."

"Your son is one of the funniest people in the country, does he make you laugh too?"

"Very much. When he sees that I'm not in the mood, he will sing or tell a joke. I become someone else, as if I forgot all the problems and sadness. He was always funny, since he was a child. He was a good child, spoiled, always needing his shoelaces tied or his shirt arranged. He always wanted me to do it; he was connected to me. To this day he is connected to me—when I don't feel well, he immediately checks on me."
